Dave and Cheryl MacLeod posted a condolence
Dear Greg and Christi, Penny, and all the grandchildren We're so sorry to hear of Fred's death. When I think of both Fred and Gladys I have many happy memories, and I was truly glad that I got the opportunity to know them. I've used your dad's "mark mark mark" joke more than once, and I've caught myself saying "oy oy oy!" many times. I know how to polka, I love Ukrainian food, and I even know who Nestor Pistor is - all courtesy of you and your parents. We don't always know how we will touch the lives of others - but your parents always set a great example of hospitality and kindness. Fred had such a good sense of humour, and a real curiosity about so many things, and he shared that with the people he was with. I know that he made a difference in my life, and Cheryl feels the same way. I hope that happy memories will help and sustain you during at this time, Love Dave

I am sorry to learn today of Fred's death. I first met Fred at Fanshawe College nearly 50 years ago and always found him to be a warm and cheery soul. I've seen him only a couple of times since my 1990 retirement, but his demeanour had not changed. I will continue to think of Fred whenever I see an old Mercedes. He and I had great chats in Fanshawe's body shop. May he rest in peace.

I had Fred (Uncle Fred to many of us), at Fanshawe College, back in 1965-67. Fred was one of two of the most inspirational and patient instructors that I have ever had. The other was Bob Newnham, whom you likely know. We all tested Fred's patience almost every day, with some of the things we did back then, but Fred took it in stride and we all learned much from him. Fred had a knack for making the lessons fun, and interesting. I feel I am a better person for having known him. David Brown

Greg, Please accept my deepest sympathies for your father's passing. Give Chris and Tamara (if she made it back) a huge hug for me, and give Nick a punch in the shoulder, too; I'm sure they will not remember me, but pass along my feelings. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

We miss Fred dearly at Longworth. For the first couple of days, we were sure he was going to come in at the tale end of breakfast as he always had.....and we were very sad when he didn't show up. Fred lite up the dining room each and every day, and he was wonderful to tease and joke around with. He made our lives better. He also gave the best hugs. Thank you for sharing your Dad/Grandpa with us. He truly was a wonderful man.

Greg and Penny and families, our deepest condolences on the loss of your father. Fred was one of my electrical instructors back in 1967 when I graduated from OVCL (Fanshawe College). Fred and Bob Newnham (another electrical instructor) were very influential in preparing me for a 31-year career with IBM Canada. Over the years we stayed in touch and occasionally Nancie and I would meet Fred and Gladys, and then just Fred, for a meal at Swiss Chalet. I will miss his smile, sense of humour and discussions about life and Mercedes. - Darrell & Nancie

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Fred who was a dental patient of mine when I was a student at the dental school at Western. I still remember him as a friendly, smiling, wonderful person just as the photo in his obituary reminded me of in our local paper, the Waterloo Record. I still recall the day that Fred and Gladys took myself and a classmate of mine out for lunch at their favourite restaurant in London to show their appreciation for our patient care. Rest in peace Fred and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family members.
