Peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2015 with family by his side, Hugh Smibert in his 68th year. Beloved husband of Theresa (Thomas) of 49 happy years. Loving father of Scott and Michelle of Dorchester and the late Sandra (1978). Proud grandpa of Tavish, Alex and Collin. Dear brother of Muriel MacFeidh of Seattle, Washington, Norm and Lorraine Smibert of Smiland Farms in Glanworth. Cherished son-in-law of Don and Marion Thomas of Lambeth. Uncle “Hughie” to Vicky MacFeidh and Antoine Bonnaveau of Valencia, Spain, Liza Tewell of Seattle, Washington, Richard and Karen Smibert of St. Thomas, and Susan and John Landsborough of Oakville. Hugh will be missed by his many great nieces and nephews, Chantal and John Smibert, Clara Koch, Megan and Callum Landsborough and Isabella Bonnaveau. Hugh leaves behind his many close cousins and countless friends and especially his trusted companion Lucy.
Hugh saw his last checkered flag on his way to the finish line. Wonderland Speedway was Hugh’s creation and the home of the areas microsprint racing at Smiland Farms, where Hugh loved spending every Friday night racing with friends. A Red Wings fan through and through, Hugh played for St. Thomas Barons, Lambeth Intermediate, South Middlesex, London Kings and Lambeth Canadian Oldtimers and coached the Lambeth Midgets, the Mount Brydges Bulldogs and Lambeth Intermediate team.
Friends may visit at the McFarlane and Roberts Funeral Home, 2240 Wharncliffe Road South, Lambeth 519-652-2020 on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. A celebration of Hugh’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 from 2:00 … 5:00 p.m. at the Stoneridge Inn Best Western, 6675 Burtwistle Lane, London, N6L 1H5, 519-652-6022 at Highway 4 at the 401 with the formal program commencing at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
