Sue and I were saddened to hear of Bob's passing. We both enjoyed knowing him and working with him at Howden's for over 25 years. As our Vice President of Merchandising he played an integral part in the success and growth of D. H. Howden during those years.
Bob was truly a fine individual, true to himself, hard working and liked by all. When he retired we hosted a retirement dinner at a local hotel. It was attended by a large number of customers, suppliers and employees, attesting to his impact on the industry and company alike. As the emcee for the event I saw first-hand his joyous and grateful reaction to the many 'good-hearted' comments directed his way by his friends. No one laughed more than Bob himself. The respect and love for Bob was never more evident than that evening.
Know that many people share your loss but the memories of him will remain with us.

Hi Brian and Judy. We were sorry to hear of the passing of Brian's Dad. Our plan was to attend visitation on Tuesday to say so in person. We were away and scheduled to return on Monday evening. However, the delay of the first of two connection flights required us to reschedule our flight home a day later.
We missed seeing you and hope you and your family are otherwise well.
Best wishes.

Brian, Judy and family,
Please accept our supportive thoughts as you grieve the loss of your father (in-law) and celebrate a life well lived.
Our memories return to our shared lives on Winter Way in Brantford a generation ago with new born children and “middle aged “ parents.
Take care!

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the McKerlie family. I had the privilege of working at D.H.Howden with Bob in the seventies and eighties. He was the definition of a dedicated, hardworking first class gentleman. His reputation of being a straight and fair man are still remembered by many in the hard goods industry.
I hope there is lots pipe tobacco and wooden matches in heaven.
Rest in peace R.C.
Gord Underwood

I am very sorry to hear about Bob's passing.
I got to know Bob in the 70's and 80's when I became a Pro Hardware dealer. He was an amazing man that I learned to have an awful lot of respect for. He was a leader in the hardware industry and I was very fortunate that he was at D.H. Howden when I was a dealer.
Bob made me a lot of money by providing us Pro dealers with great products at great prices. He wasn't perfect though, as all Pro dealers will remember the Rolly Kit!! He was a true innovator and it was fantastic to have seen in him in action.
Heaven is a much better place now that Bob is there.

It's with deep regret that Joanne and I heard of Bob's passing; our condolences to his family.
Bob and I worked together for almost 40 years at D.H. Howden & Co. Ltd. and we shared fond memories of the hardware distribution industry.
Since Bob was in charge of the Purchasing Department and I was responsible for all the company sales, we had a mutual interest to serve our clients' regional needs. Bob was most instrumental in insuring that we had the right products, at the right time, to assist me in growing our business. This meant that we travelled coast-to-coast together to determine the hardware retailers' needs. Having Bob's support in the field immensely helped our company to expand at a rapid and successful rate. If I ever came back from a trip to Victoria, BC without some of Bob's tobacco from a specialty smoke store, I felt his ire. It was a privilege working with Bob and I truly miss him.
Rest in Peace, Bob.

My dear cousins, I am very sorry to hear of Uncle Bob’s passing. He came to Dad’s visitation and I was so happy to see him there. The open house for his birthday was another opportunity to connect with him again he was a very kind uncle. He was also the only man I knew who could have a conversation with another person and NEVER take that pipe out of his mouth and remarkably I understood every single word! Love you all dearly. Kathy

I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of Bob. I met and knew Bob through many years at D. H. Howden & Co. As V.P. of Merchandising, he was always very fair with staff, devoted to the company, and a man of great integrity. The Merchandising Department was a part of the company that you wanted to be a part of mostly because of the who was running it - Bob. He always respected his staff and in turn, he received the utmost respect from his staff. We all became a tightknit group and enjoyed the best social functions out at the farm on Exeter Road and then later out in Delaware. Find peace in knowing that he now has joined Betty in a new beginning. Sue and Joe Michalski
