Obituary of Mary Leona Rosalie Walker

Walker, Mary

Hi folks.   My sister, Mary Walker, passed away this past Tuesday after a lengthy illness.  Mary was a long-term resident of Henley Place.  She loved it there.  She was known for making & selling bracelets, her crochet work and her sense of humour.  The write up for her is located here:

Peacefully on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023, “Mary” Leona Walker, passed away at Victoria Hospital, London at the age of 66 years.  Mary was born in Parry Sound, Ontario and raised everywhere.  She is predeceased by her parents Jim and Tillie Walker and survived by her brothers Rick (Suzanne) Walker, Herb Seaver (Betty), niece Danielle Walker (George) and nephew James.  She will be missed by her sister-in-law Paulette Martel, Uncle Bob, her “aunties”, many cousins, and support staff Jennifer and Melinda.

Mary grew up in an armed forces family which meant being constantly on the move, be it overseas or across Canada.  Mary had an intellectual disability, but this did not stop her from wanting to learn more, thanks to the activities provided by the folks at Hutton House.  She volunteered for many activities including helping at the United Way and for the Crochet Club of London, crocheting countless numbers of lap blankets and odds and sods which were donated to the needy in our community.  She loved her room at Henley Place and relished the time that she and our mom, Tillie Walker got to spend together while living at Henley Place.

In order to include as many of our relatives from across the country, we have chosen to have a private virtual service to be held on Sunday, November 19th at 4:00 p,.m.  If you wish to participate, please contact her brother Rick Walker or McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics London, P.O. Box 918, Stn. B., London, ON N6A 4Z3 at https://soocommunity.crowdchange.ca/53912.  Many thanks to the staff at Henley Place and at London Health Sciences Centre Dialysis Unit over these past years for their wonderful care of Mary.

McFarlane & Roberts Funeral Home, (519) 652-2020 in care of arrangements.  On-line condolences are available through www.mcfarlane-roberts.ca
