Back in 1990 we were checking progress on our new home when a lady on a horse rode up to us from the road. She introduced herself and welcomed us to the neighborhood. And that was how we met Jean McFarlane. Jean has been a great friend over the last 35 years, always ready to help or offer advice in any situation. On behalf of the Wardle family, please accept our condolences we are so sorry for your loss,

We want to express our deepest condolences to all of Jean's family on the loss of your Mom, grandmother and sister. I first met Jean (or Barbara Jean as she was known to us) over 55 years ago when my parents purchased the cottage right beside Auntie's Inn. Through your Aunt Jean and Aunt Mary we got to know Barbara Jean, her siblings and all the cousins. I have many fond memories of times spent there together. We were so very sorry to hear of Jean's passing and today we are thinking of you all. My heart aches for Scottie. Such a difficult time for you all.

My sincere condolences to all of Jean's family. I have not kept up with her children and their families over the years; however I can only imagine the depth of their grief over this unexpected loss. My thoughts are with Judith and Scottie for their loss. It's been awhile since I have had contact with them; however over the years they were a connection along with Jean to the Cobban and Roemmele families. COVID led to the end of the annual Roemmele picnic. I always felt that as a distant cousin that Jean was a special person. She will be missed during the summer at the cottage at Cedarview.
Sincerely, Sue Sutherland from Forest

JD and Ashley, Mike and Jessica, and Families - My sincere condolences to all of you on the passing of Jean. Words can't express how sorry I am for your loss. First connecting through cattle shows and then later with food safety inspection, I always enjoyed meeting Jean in my travels. She lit up every time she talked about her grandbabies and her family. Hold on to your memories and each other as you mourn the loss of this great lady.

Another piece of heaven has found her way home.....it seems inadequate to say "I'm sorry for your loss" when the loss is so great, but I am sorry. My condolences to all the family. We were neighbours, grew up and went our separate ways, but Jean was always a part of the fabric of my life.

Jean was a great lady, I came to know her thru her Centralia buddies and that developed into more of a connection over the years thru cattle events and hockey tournaments!
Our big annual visit was always when she came to the London sledge hockey tournament to see the boys play, she would come once maybe twice each year, even bringing the little cowgirls to watch.
My husband works in meat inspection and Jean mentored him at the start and they had great discussions about things happening in the field.
The boys and their families have become part of our cow family and we send them all big hugs and our condolences, you will all feel such a loss!

Aunt Jean ...it is what I forever referred to her as even though she wasn't officially. She was such a strong and capable lady and someone who I genuinely admired. She took life by the reigns and lived it to the fullest. She was so kind hearted and her voice is one that stands out to me on so many events when I was faced with life's challenges. When I experienced the loss of a child she was there to comfort and offer her experience. When we did finally welcome our son he coincidentally shared a birthday with Jean she was delighted to share her birth date with. This past year was a challenging one with the decling health and loss of my husband and Jean's voice is one that was often present. We have since associated pileated woodpeckers with my husband Steph after his loss and the last thing Jean wrote me is that she'd think of Steph everytime one came to visit her barn. It's been years since I've seen Jean, maybe last time when she surprised me at work at The Pines in Oxtongue Lake. Despite the distance we've connected in many ways that are meaningful to me. Ive so enjoyed watching the fullness of her life whichbis so evident through all her photos online. My sincere concern condolences to JD, Michael and family and to all her little cowgirls. She was some lady, a legend. May her legacy live on.

Jean was always a joyful person to be around. She greeted me with a hug, enjoyed her horses and the game. She was never upset with a run that went sideways. Many of us have printed pictures of our horses and friends because Jean took the time to take them. I know I’m not the only one that will think of her every time I stop at the “farmers dell” for ice cream.

To Jean‘s family, I am so sorry for your loss. Jean was definitely one of a kind and everyone loved her. It makes me smile to think of her antics at hockey tournaments. It also makes me smile to remember Mike commenting “Jean’s pissed“ when he and the Lambeth boys had gone too far in their partying at the shanty. I hope you too can smile at the wonderful memories of Jean. Take care of each other.

James, Ewen, Charlotte, and I send our deepest condolences to Jean's family. Jean was one of several incredible, empowering, and fearless women in my mother's circle of friends that I was blessed to have as a role model growing up. I will remember her kindness, selflessness, resilience, strength, honesty, and sense of humour. My children will remember getting to horseback ride for the first time on Jean's farm last summer. We'll miss you, Jean! Sending love.

JD, Ashley, Michael, Jessica, Judith and Scottie. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Jean loved all of your and the grandkids very much.
I met her through a random meeting, and that became a close and beautiful friendship. She was so inspiring with her non-stop life. It made me realize I can do more. It was truly life altering in the best way possible. She shared her wisdom, her horses and her companionship. Through her I met many wonderful people who have become friends. Being around horses has been so good for me.
For such a tiny person, she loved food and Todd was quite happy to share meals with her. He loves cooking for people who like to eat! So many fun memories.
She will be deeply missed. Her spirit lives on through all the many people who loved her.
I love you Jean. Until we meet again, I hope you are riding on in heaven cowgirl!

Many years ago, I met a woman.
This woman was a bad ass cowgirl that didn’t take shit from anyone. She operated equipment, hooked and loaded her own trailers and ran her farm. Her riding, reining and cutting were something to be in awe of. She was tough and fearless and yet there was a kindness in her eye that made you love her instantly.
She was independent and could do anything. Even after the sad passing of her husband, she carried on, still tough, fearless, and I knew nothing could stop her. Even though I was an adult, I knew I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I wanted to be tough, fearless, independent and have mad skills on horseback, yet have a kindness in my eye like her.
She was my hero. Someone I looked up to. I never told her that. I wish I did. Although she would have probably told me to piss off and stop kidding around.
I will miss her terribly.
My heart goes out to the family at this time.
