Our families grew up together and we were close friends with the McAuley clan for many years. We all attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. I have warm memories of camping trips at SHDHS, youth group get togethers at the McAuley home, babysitting Don, Ruth Anne and Steve and being a mother's helper to Mrs. McAuley, my mother's dearest friend. As a teacher at South Huron High, Gerald McAuley was well known as a kind, no nonsense, respected and admired teacher. He went out of his way to help his students and others. He helped this student pass his Chemistry class when I struggled and he was my Driver's Ed instructor. As the nervous, and only, female in a car full of boys, he had me drive first and then stated "that's how it's done, boys." So many great memories, but it was the way he *lived* his faith that is unforgetable. On behalf of the Davis family (Janet, Jeff and myself), and in particular my mother, Elizabeth Davis, our hearts go out to the McAuley family. So many lives have been touched by his humor, warmth and compassion - and blessed by a man who loves God, loves his family and friends and leaves a powerful Spirit-filled legacy.
Susan (Davis) Mayhew

To John, Bernie and their family and to John's siblings - it is with sadness we say good-bye to a dear friend, a teacher. The pictures posted by Bernie bring back some wonderful and treasured moments. Memories to hold in our hearts of this special man, father, grandfather, great grandfather. And, as I read the sayings we have all heard Gerald say at what time or another, it was like hearing Gerald say them again. Our hearts and condolences go out to you and all of Gerald's family. Gerald will was known and loved by many and he will be missed by many. Dianne, Angie and her family.

Just sitting around the table with my kids (Gerry’s grandkids) and thinking of some of Dads favourite sayings. Here are a few memorable ones.
“But anyways”
“My mother said there would be days like this, but she never told me how many”
“Oh well”
Thinking about them, makes us smile and laugh…as Gerry would want us to.

"Mr. McAuley" the science teacher. Just the nicest, kindest, guiding light in a student's world.
Gerald - the dad, the husband, the grandfather and great grandfather to everyone in his family's world.
Gerry was a good friend, bursting with knowledge. His boisterous, booming presence made you sit up and listen. He was kind to the very core of his being.
I appreciate knowing this man - a "dad" to my sister and his eldest son, Bernadette and John.
Fly with the angels Mr. McAuley. You have earned your wings.
Darlene (Ducharme) MacDonald
